OrganisationA Property Development Firm

We work with businesses across New Zealand providing commercial security services including alarm systems, alarm monitoring, CCTV and Security Guards. In this case study, our client Scott, a property manager for a large property development firm, talks about his experience of the New Zealand security industry, discusses the challenges and talks about his firm’s great relationship with Recon Security.

The Challenges

With extensive experience as a property manager, Scott is very aware of the problems associated with buildings at all stages of their lifecycle, from development, partial occupation and full occupation through to empty buildings waiting for new uses.

The main issues that any firm faces in terms of security are related to trespass and damage to property. In particular, doors which are left unlocked, broken windows, graffiti, vandalism, theft, homeless people and curious strangers exploring buildings. All of these issues are exacerbated when property owners fail to invest in appropriate security measures, but even when they do this, it isn’t always problem free!

The Problem

Whilst having security staff on site conveys a message to potential intruders that the site has protection, the effectiveness of this protection is dependent on the people who provide those services – both the security staff and the account managers who oversee the relationship between the client and the service provision.

Scott has experienced lots of issues over the last few years which relate to the people element of security provision. “Security providers and their staff aren’t all the same. When nothing happens everything is fine, but it’s when things do happen that we can really measure the effectiveness of our security provider”. The biggest issue is poor communication. “Often security teams fail to provide feedback on events that have taken place, and that doesn’t help us prevent the same thing happening again. When we highlight a problem at the start of a shift, it may be 24 hours until the start of the next shift before we get any kind of feedback”.

“We’re delighted with Recon Security. A combination of great communication with account managers, tracking and problem resolution, regular updates from security staff who have backgrounds in relevant jobs, and a large enough team to flex the workforce ensure that the firm is quickly becoming a major service provider for our business!”

Choosing Recon

Our client’s portfolio includes a large industrial site. We saw the opportunity to provide a quote for this service and were delighted when we were invited for a more detailed conversation about the opportunity. Scott was impressed with our service offer and our commitment to developing a long-term relationship with all our clients. Since working together, we have taken on a larger part of the portfolio that Scott manages and our relationship is going from strength to strength.

The Results

Scott is enthusiastic about the way we work. He notes that generally service standards in the security industry are declining, “firms are less caring, and less concerned about meeting client expectations”. It’s great to hear that we are different:
