(CCTV) Closed Circuit TV: Maximising your security potential

CCTV refers to a visible or covert video system intended for only a limited number of viewers. In CCTV, the picture is viewed or recorded, but not broadcasted. It is primarily used for surveillance and security purposes. However CCTV is not limited to businesses and organisations. It can be a relevant and valid security measure for residences.

Among their features modern CCTV displays can be colour, high-resolution displays and can include the ability to zoom in on an image or track something (or someone). They can have infrared capability allowing the system to be used at night. Systems can be set up to only record when movement is detected, saving on memory space and saving the reviewer time by not needing to go back through hours of recorded material where nothing is happening.

So why bother with a CCTV?

Increased deterrent – CCTV systems are a great deterrent to potential thieves. Once they realise that your home or business is protected by a closed circuit television system they invariably choose to go somewhere else.

Safer working environment – CCTV helps to ensure adherence to health and safety policies and can be invaluable in staff training.

Reduced retail theft – shop lifters deliberately target businesses with poor security and will think twice if there is an increased risk they may be caught on camera.

Increased detection – the prosecution rates for businesses / home owners using CCTV is many times higher than that for those without CCTV. If you are unfortunate enough to be a victim of crime at least there will be a strong chance of detection and conviction.

Eliminate fraudulent insurance claims – in an increasingly litigious society is has never been more important to protect your business against claims that are not legitimate. CCTV can eliminate this and reduce your premiums.

Remote monitoring – keep an eye on your home or business when you aren’t there. CCTV systems can be viewed and controlled remotely over the internet (via an iPhone, laptop etc).

Reduced fear of crime – knowing you are well protected gives a feeling of security that should not be underestimated (ask anyone who has been burgled how they felt immediately after it occurred.

So now might be the time you want to think about CCTV for your home or business – it’s simple and effective protection – a security no brainer.
