Safe City Ambassador Continues To Keep Our City Safe

The residents of Lower Hutt have something to look forward to as the rejuvenation of the city is set to continue with plans already confirmed for the year ahead!

They can also expect to see Recon Safe City Ambassadors’ continued patrol of the streets of Lower Hutt from Thursday to Saturday during the afternoons and evenings to help keep the community safe.

This community safety initiative programme is part of a wider Safe Hutt Valley collaboration between government and non-government agencies with a goal to reduce crime, alcohol harm, injuries and family violence. City Safety Manager, Jimmy Ballantyne, an ex-policeman, lead the Council’s crime prevention work.

Jimmy maintains an oversight of the Council’s camera network, which record the streets 24/7, identifying new locations, maintaining cameras and ensuring these are legally compliant and effective. There are currently 41 cameras spread throughout the city with more planned. This ensures theft and any suspicious behaviour are reported as soon as they are viewed by the team so police can attend to this immediately.

This programme really is a great resource for the community. Thanks to our Recon Mobile Security Patrol, the Safe City Ambassadors, for their continued assistance in keeping the city of Lower Hutt safe and enjoyable for everyone. It makes a great difference to the community!
